My name is Vito Versluys (48).
In everyday life, I work as a contractor specializing in restoration projects. I live together with Tineke and my two daughters in Knesselare. This is centrally located between Ghent and Bruges in Belgium.
Besides work, I have only one real passion, and that is motorsport. If I am not working on the race Beetle, I am usually busy with something else that can be raced.
At the age of 16, I fell in love with the Beetle, and since then I have always been involved with them. Besides The Edge (the golden race Beetle), we also have two other Beetles that we take out for relaxed drives around the village on sunny days, and we occasionally attend local VW meetings.
My team:
Together with Koenraad De Smet (ex Geko Tuning), we build the engines. When we go racing, I am always accompanied by my wife Tineke, Jeffrey Segers, and sometimes Michael Spiessens when he is not racing himself.
Car:
We will be attending with a 1954 Beetle called The Edge.
2919cc naturally aspirated engine, Aurocraft heads with 58mm Berg carburetors.
Bus gearbox built by GBJ (Gears By Jens).
The Edge is a fully self-built project. Only the roll cage was built by Cotsweld Race Cars in the UK.
PB: 10.35 @ 209 km/h
Goal for 2026: to run low 10-second passes, or maybe even a 9-second run.
